Pyracantha is a dense, spiny evergreen shrub. It is a tough, hardy plant which grows quite quickly, producing scented cream / white flowers in late spring with striking red, orange or yellow berries, depending on the variety.

It prefers a sunny spot and should be pruned after flowering to expose the berry forming flowers to sunshine. It is very easy to grow in most soils in ful sun or partial shade but is not suitable for coastal gardens, very deep shade or very exposed windy sites.

The extremely spiny stems makes them ideal for protected nesting sites for small birds as well as the ultimate natural intruder deterrant.
